New research continues to shape the best timing, and we’ll walk you through the pros and cons of each option to find what’s right for your pet. We’ll also discuss additional procedures that can be done at the same time, such as removing baby teeth, preventing bloat (GDV) with a gastropexy, or taking x-rays while your pet is already under anesthesia—helping minimize future stress and extra sedation.

Core Vaccinations

Rabies

A universally fatal viral disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, transmissible to humans. Vaccination is legally required and provides critical protection against this deadly pathogen.

Distemper/Adenovirus/Parvo

This combination vaccine shields against three highly contagious and severe diseases: Canine Distemper (respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological issues), Canine Adenovirus (infectious hepatitis), and Canine Parvovirus (life-threatening gastrointestinal illness).

Leptospirosis

A bacterial disease spreads through contaminated water or wildlife urine, causing kidney and liver damage, and is zoonotic (transmissible to humans). Reclassified as a core vaccine in 2025 due to its high prevalence and the merging boundaries of suburbia and wildlife.

Bordetella / Kennel Cough

Protects against THREE common respiratory infections—Bordetella bronchiseptica, Canine Adenovirus Type 2, and Parainfluenza virus—which together cause kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory infection spread among dogs in social settings. Canine Influenza
